Assignments live next to lessons in your curriculum, but they do not pretend to be quizzes. The same builder handles a single-paragraph reflection and a multi-file capstone, with a deadline window, pass-fail marking and a manual grading workflow that keeps feedback visible to the learner.
Text + File Submissions
Learners write a rich-text response, upload files, or do both. Edushade keeps the answer and the attachments together on one submission record.
Start and End Window
A required start time and end time anchor every assignment. Edushade validates the dates, shows countdown timers to learners, and surfaces a Missed badge when the window closes without a submission.
Total + Passing Marks
Set the marks out of any total and a passing threshold. Edushade enforces that passing cannot exceed total, and tracks the score per submission.
Manual Grading Loop
Each submission moves through submitted, graded and returned. Award a score, leave feedback, add private comments and return for revision when needed.
Merit List (Optional)
Toggle a per-assignment merit list — visible to the learner alone, or to everyone who submitted — when ranking adds something to the experience.
Course or Cohort Scoped
Submissions carry program_type and program_id, so the same assignment can be reused across cohorts and the records stay sorted by where the work actually happened.

Some assignments are essays. Some are screenshots. Most are a paragraph plus a PDF. Edushade does not force a choice. The learner gets a rich-text editor for the written part and a file picker for everything else, and both land on the same submission record so a grader sees the whole answer in one place.

A clear window — and a clear consequence when it closes
Every assignment has a start time and an end time. Edushade validates that the end is after the start, and the learner side surfaces a countdown to the deadline while the assignment is open. Once the window closes without a submission, the assignment shows up in the learner's history as missed — no ambiguity, no manual cleanup.

Marks, feedback and a return-for-revision path
Set the marks out of any total — Edushade keeps passing marks in step so passing can never be greater than total. Submissions arrive with status submitted; an instructor awards a score, writes rich feedback for the learner and optional private comments, and the status moves to graded. When a submission needs another pass, return it and the learner sees the feedback inline before re-submitting.

Optional merit list, always-on program scope
Two switches decide who sees the merit list: one for the submitting learner, one for everyone else who submitted. Both are off by default — turn them on per assignment when ranking adds something. Every submission also carries the program type and program ID, so the same assignment plugged into two cohorts keeps clean, separable records when you need them.

From a brief to a graded submission in three steps
The assignment builder lives inside the curriculum tree. Drop one in next to the lesson it supports, set the window and the marks, attach the brief, then publish — submissions start landing the moment the start time hits.
Create the assignment
Add a title, write rich-text instructions, attach reference files learners will need (briefs, datasets, templates). Edushade stores them with the assignment so the brief and the answer never live in different places.
Set the window and the marks
Pick the start date-time and the end date-time, set total marks and passing marks. Optionally turn on the merit list for the learner and for others. Save as draft or publish straight away.
Grade and return
Submissions land in the grading queue with the learner's text and files in one view. Award a score, leave feedback, add private comments, and either mark it graded or return it for revision.
